Jonathan Manwaring, D.O., Chief Medical Officer
Jonathan Manwaring, D.O., joined the medical staff of Gila Health Resources as Chief Medical Officer in July, 2017. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine, and practices Occupational Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine as well. He received his bachelor degree from Idaho State University, his medical degree from Midwestern University, and went on to complete his Residency in Family Medicine at Phoenix Baptist Hospital in 2010. He most recently practiced as a Family Physician with Mountain Park Health Center, as an Occupational Medicine provider with MBI Industrial Medicine, and as an Urgent Care provider with UCR Urgent Care – all in the Greater Phoenix area. Dr. Manwaring comes from a large family. He was born and raised in Idaho, where several of his family members still live. He is married and has five children, and splits his time between Morenci and Mesa, Arizona. He, his wife, and family all enjoy traveling, sports, and spending time doing community activities. He is an active member of GHR’s medical staff, seeing patients in Urgent Care, Family Medicine, and Occupational Medicine.
Daniel Regoso, M.D.
Dr. Regoso was the first physician to join the medical staff of Gila Health Resources’ Family Medicine Department in Morenci in 2005. He is also a member of GHR’s 24-hour Urgent Care Department medical staff in Morenci. Dr. Regoso completed residency training in Family Practice at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, and McKeesport Hospital near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1994. He served as an emergency room physician at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac, Indiana, and as a Family Practitioner at the Francesville Family Medical Center in Francesville, Indiana from 1994 to 1997. Dr. Regoso was a member of the medical staff at the Talbert Medical Group (now known as the Carondelet Health Network) in Green Valley, Arizona in 1997 and 1998, prior to joining Gila Health Resources in Morenci in 2005. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and has been Board Certified in Family Practice since 1994.
David Cummings, M.D.
Dr. Cummings served as a full-time member of Gila Health Resources’ Family Medicine Department medical staff from 2007 to July, 2017. He is currently limiting his pratice to Urgent Care on a part-time basis. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas in 1983, and completed an Internship in Family Practice with the University of Utah at the McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah from 1983 through 1986. He provided both inpatient and outpatient medical care as a staff physician with the Navajo Nation Health Foundation in Ganado, Arizona from 1986 to 1993, practiced Family Medicine with Med Square Clinic in Silver City, New Mexico from 1993 to 1999, and as a private solo practitioner in Silver City from 1999 until he joined Gila Health Resources in Morenci. Dr. Cummings has been Board Certified in Family Practice since 1986.
Michael Johnson, M.D., Medical Director – Laboratory
Dr. Johnson is a member of the GHR’s Family Medicine, Urgent Care, and Occupational Medicine medical staff, and serves as Associate Medical Director for Occupational Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of South Dakota, in Vermillion, S.D. in 1999, and went on to complete an Internship in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico in 1999 and 2000, followed by Residency training in Family Practice, including electives in International Medicine, Obstetrics and Emergency Medicine, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico from 2000 to 2002. He was employed by Hidalgo Medical Services as a family Physician in Lordsburg, New Mexico from August, 2002 until March, 2012 when he joined the medical staff in GHR’s Family Medicine Department in Morenci. He is Board Certified in Family Practice.
Ang Kaji Sherpa, M.D., Medical Director – Urgent Care
Dr. Sherpa is the longest serving member of GHR’s 24-Hour Urgent Care Medicine Department. He is also GHR’s Associate Medical Director for Urgent Care and Emergency Medicine Services. He received his medical degree from the Berhampur University M.K.C.G. Medical College in Orissa, India, in 1982, and completed a Fellowship and Post-Doctoral Research training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia from 1987 to 1989, and Residency training at the University of North Dakota from 1992 to 1995. Dr. Sherpa has worked more than 35,000 hours as an Emergency Room physician at a number of larger high-volume and smaller rural hospitals throughout Arizona since 1993. Dr. Sherpa is Board Certified in Family Medicine.
Charles Kertay, M.D.
Dr. Kertay joined the medical staff of GHR’s Family Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine Departments in 2004. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1985, and completed an Internship and Residency in Family Practice at the Mid-Hudson Family Health Services Institute in Kingston, N.Y. from 1985 to 1988. He first became Board Certified in Family Medicine in 1989. Dr. Kertay was a member of the medical staff at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia from 1989 to 1990, and the Kirk Army Hospital in Aberdeen, Maryland from 1990 to 1992. He was in private practice as a Family Physician in Baltimore, Md. From 1990 to 1992, and then served on the medical staff of the Mountain Medical Group Immediate Care Center in Bend, Oregon, until he relocated to Arizona shortly before joining GHR in 2004.
Naomi Clancy, M.D., Medical Director – Family Medicine
Dr. Clancy is a member of GHR’s Family Medicine and Urgent Care medical staff, and serves as Associate Medical Director for Family Medicine. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Clancy received her medical degree from the University of New Mexico, graduating magna cum laude. She completed residency training at the Providence St. Peter Family Practice Residency Program in Olympia, Washington where she focused on rural health and obstetrical care and went on to receive the program’s Family Centered Maternity Care Award upon graduation. Dr. Clancy practiced Family Medicine in Socorro, New Mexico, and most recently in Silver City, New Mexico, before relocating to Morenci. Dr. Clancy, her husband, and their three children enjoy gardening, hiking, camping, and keeping up with their many farm animals.
Dorothy Dare, PA-C/BSN
Dorothy Dare is a licensed, certified Physician’s Assistant, and a member of Gila Health Resources’ Family Medicine Department and Urgent Care medical staff in Morenci. She received an Associate of Applied Science (Physician’s Assistant) Degree in 1986 from Cuyahoga Community College in Parma, Ohio, and a Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree from New York Regents College, in New York, N.Y. in 1993. Dorothy practiced as a Physician Assistant at the Oroville Family Health Clinic in Oroville, California from 1986 to 1991, at the Urgent Medical Clinic/Chico Industrial Clinic in Chico, California from 1991 to 1994, at Med Square Clinic in Silver City, New Mexico, from 1995 to 1999, and at Silver Internal Medicine in Silver City, from 1999 to 2007, prior to joining Gila Health Resources. As a member of the Family Medicine medical staff at Gila Health Resources, Dorothy’s responsibilities include diagnostic evaluation and treatment, healthcare maintenance, Women’s healthcare from puberty to menopause, Family Planning, evaluation of Laboratory and X-Ray studies, Minor Surgery, Patient Education for pediatric and adult patients regarding Wellness, prevention of Illness, injuries and disease management.
Steward (Craig) Hoffman, PA-C
Craig Hoffman is a licensed, certified Physician Assistant, and has been a member of Gila Health Resources’ Occupational Medicine Department medical staff in Morenci since 2010 and in Globe since July 1, 2015. Craig completed his initial training as a Physician Assistant in 1989 when he obtained his Bachelors of Science Degree with distinction from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, through the United States Army Physician’s Assistant Program at the Academy of Health Sciences, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, and Womack Army Hospital in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. His post-graduate education included a Combat Casualty Care Course, including Advanced Trauma Life Support Training, at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, in 1992, and Emergency Medicine Refresher Training, including combined didactic and hands-on training with an emphasis on trauma care, at Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, in 1993. Craig served as Physician’s Assistant for the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, in Gelnhausen, Germany in 1990 and 1991, and at Ft. Hood, Texas from 1991 to 1994. He also practiced as a Physician’s Assistant at Southern Huntingdon County Medical Center in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania from 1996 to 1998, at Wexford Health Sources in Wexford, Pa. from 1998 to 2003, at Prison Health Services in Wexford from 2003 to 2007, and at Mt. Union Medical Center, a rural health clinic in central Pennsylvania, from 2007 to 2010, just prior to joining Gila Health Resources in Morenci.
Charles (Chuck) Smerglia, PA-C
Chuck Smerglia is a licensed, certified Physician Assistant, and has been a member of Gila Health Resources’ medical and administrative staff in Morenci since 2005. Chuck began his employment with Gila Health Resources as Physician Assistant and Manager of the Occupational Medicine Department in 2005. He went on to oversee its Human Resources and Patient Relations activities in 2010, and manage the Family Medicine Department in 2011. Chuck received his Physician’s Assistant degree from Cuyahoga Community College in June, 1984 and began his career with the Alamo Clinic in Magdalena, New Mexico in August, 1984. He served on the medical staff of Colfax General Hospital in Springer, New Mexico in 1986 and 1987, the Playas Clinic in Playas, New Mexico from 1987 through 1992, Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia, Texas in 1995 and 1996, Matagorda County Hospital in Palacios, Texas in 1997 and 1998, Occupational Health Resources in Silver City, New Mexico from 1998 through 2004, and Gila Regional Medical Center and Hidalgo Medical Services in Silver City, New Mexico in 2003 and 2004. During that time, Chuck’s responsibilities included Primary, Urgent and Emergency patient care, Occupational Medicine, CPR and Emergency Medical Technician instruction, and medical practice management.
Amanda Gray, PA-C
Amanda Gray, PA-C, is a licensed, certified Physician Assistant. She is the newest member of Gila Health Resources Occupational Medicine staff and also sees patients in Urgent Care and Family Medicine. Amanda earned her Master of Medical Science degree as a Physician Assistant with Honors from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in August, 2008. She went on to join the medical staff of the Bradenton Heart Center in Bradenton, Florida, before relocating to Silver City, New Mexico to join the staff at Hidalgo Medical Services Community Health Center in 2009. She joined Gila Health Resources in June, 2013. Prior to beginning her formal education and career as a Physician Assistant, Amanda served with the United States Army where she worked as a Medical and Clinical Lab Technician from 1998 to 2001, and with WAKO Chemicals, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Allen Memorial Hospital in Iowa from 2002 to 2004, before becoming a Research Assistant with Diamedix Corporation in 2005.
Donalt T. Innes, PA-C
Donald Innes, PA-C, is a licensed, Certified Physician Assistant. He became a full-time member of Gila Health Resources’ medical staff in Morenci, in the Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine Departments, in July, 2017, after serving as a member of its PRN medical staff since 2015. Prior to joining GHR on a full-time basis, Don was a member of the Emergency Department medical staff at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center in Safford. Prior to becoming a licensed Certified Physician Assistant in 2006 through A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona, he served as a Pre-Hospital Coordinator, and as an RN in the Emergency Department at MGRMC, as a Flight Nurse for Jet Air Arizona, as an Assistant Administrator for Outreach Services, and as Program Director/Supervisor for four dialysis units for Renal West and East Valley Dialysis. Don is married and has seven children and eleven grandchildren. He has also served as a Town Councilman for the Town of Thatcher for 19 years.
Shane Goss, PT
Shane Goss joined the medical staff Gila Health Resources in 2005. He is a licensed Physical Therapist with a broad range of experience, including outpatient industrial, orthopedic, pediatric, and geriatric physical therapy services. Shane graduated from the University of Missouri in 1996, and received his post graduate education in Physical Therapy from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri in 1998. Prior to joining GHR, he served as Clinic Director and Physical Therapist for 21st Century Rehab in Columbus Junction, Iowa from 1999 to 2005, where his responsibilities also included providing work injury prevention presentations to local businesses, and serving as Rehab Director for a 160 bed nursing home in Muscatine, Iowa.
Delia Smeaton, MS, RD, CDE
Delia Smeaton, a Registered Dietitian /Nutritionist, is the newest member of our medical staff at Gila Health Resources in Morenci. As a Registered Dietitian, Delia is a food and nutrition expert, and is an essential part of our Family Medicine Healthcare Team. She provides professional Medical Nutrition Therapy, by appointment, as well as a variety of other health education and support services to a wide variety of patients, including those with diabetes, obesity, and other chronic diseases. Future plans call for Delia to participate in an expanded menu of services to the community – both clinic-based and throughout the community, including case management, patient education, appointment and testing adherence, medication compliance, home visits, and community and school outreach.
